Many of our classmates were drafted into the Army or forced to join another service. For the record, my father (ETHS 1936) was appointed to the draft board and finally was made the "head" of the draft board during our high school and post years. He would ask me if I know a certain person because he was next the list The draft had quotas every month and some months no one was needed and other months many were needed. Everybody signed up for the draft but not everyone was drafted.. My father felt it was duty as a post WWII veteran to serve on the draft board. At the time he felt  the war in Nam was justified. When I returned and we talked about my experience and reread letters I sent to my wife, Jerri, his attitude changed not about the draft but about the war in Nam. As I mentioned to him decades ago and it is happening now in the middle east, the US has the best fighting force in the world and we can train the locals how to fight but in the end they will not fight their fellow countryman. My dad served on the draft board until the draft was no longer needed.
