view from a spouse Posted Monday, September 8, 2014 11:14 AM What people may not know is that Jack enlisted in the Army so his dad would not have to draft him. We were married Dec 28, 1968 while he was still in training, he returned to Fort Lost in the Woods in Lawton OK to complete his traing on the "big guns" and left for Vietnam Feb 4, 1969. He extended to 15 Months so he could get out of the military when he returned home. People spat on him at the airport when he returned. |

RE: view from a spouse Posted Monday, September 8, 2014 01:40 PM Jerri, first thank you for your service and your sacrafice. I cannot imagine what is must have been like for you, as my husband (who was six years older than me) served his time before Vietnam. I am so proud of both you and Jack, and I am so thankful Jack came home. The treatement Jack and our other brave service men and women got when returning home from Vietnam is a disgraceful spot on our history, and I am sorry you and Jack experienced it. |

RE: view from a spouse Posted Monday, September 8, 2014 04:13 PM Jerri,
I did not know that Jack had enlisted so that his Dad did not have to draft him. Wow. That was a very difficult decision to make. See you two on Saturday.

RE: view from a spouse Posted Monday, September 8, 2014 07:07 PM Jerri - I am so glad you posted from the "girl back home" point of view. So glad Jack made it back home to you and so glad to know that life has treated you well. Can't wait to see you both and say thank you for your service to Jack in person. |
