Evanston High teacher sanctioned over a poster Posted Thursday, July 31, 2025 12:27 AM History teacher Andrew Ginsburg, who is Jewish, put up a poster calling for Jewish people to protest when morality calls for it. Apparently the parent of a student in another class which also uses that classroom complained. ETHS told him to take down the poster. He did, but posted a note saying that the poster was removed on the behest of the school district - and was sanctioned again! He said he plans to file a civil rights lawsuit. The July 17 Evanston Review (now a monthly supplement in the Chicago Tribune covered this - and Evanston Roundup had an earlier story. Plus Chicago Area Peace Action, IfNotNow and others are on the case. I attended a meeting July 10 at the Evanston Library and there was another meeting at Lake St. Church July 13. Do others from our class want to join me in writing to administrators on this?

RE: Evanston High teacher sanctioned over a poster Posted Thursday, August 14, 2025 03:24 PM It's odd, to me at least, that the school would pull the poster because of a single complaint by one parent - were there other beefs (or beeves)? Also, it's a cool poster. As far as I can tell, the message itself is harmless - certainly within the boundaries of legitimate opinion. Bill Wanlund |
