Happy birthday
Rex, as he was known at Willard Elementary School, was a good friend of mine. My first memory of him was telling me to run the outdoor drinking faucet a bit before drinking to allow some settled bacteria to escape before drinking. He was always smart. His mother organized the Cub Scouts in the basement of their Hartzell Street house. I was a regular with creative projects of building and art. The best was lining up a box of wooden matches so the igniter ends were all on one side, taking them out doors and firing them up, with a great blast and huge puff of smoke. These now darkened match sticks were used to create miniature frontier forts on a wooden platform. Rex had an older brother who sold me the best in the neighborhood soap box racer, a heavyweight wooden frame with large narrow wheels. I would push is up the small hills at the end of Central Street and coast for several blocks. Later, I installed a sail on this contraption and wind power glided me through parts of North East Evanston. As Rex said, he lost his Rex name to Ray and 100 pounds, living in Northern California. We talked occasionally, me attempting to convince him to attend a reunion. He and his mother left a mark on my life.

Most of us were born in 1946 but you were born in 1947. Did you skip a grade?
Hear from anyone from St. George?
Roseanne - you brought up the “Gimme an E” jarred a few memories first Wally really did look like he was gonna burst a blood vessel in his neck lol. Second, Senior year I didn’t take PE but was selected to be on the Intramural Board and we met every day instead of PE with Mr Bunn who ran the very complex program. He was a great guy and I was lucky to get to know him. We tallied points for each sport which ended with each class having a field day to determine the Hall that won the overall championship. There was a rep from each Hall - I remember Jim Seward was another rep but can’t remember the others - anyone else who was in there? Thanks again for stirring some great memories.
Happy Birthday Mark!! . Best wishes for another trip around the sun
