I knew Scott from Oakton from 3rd grade. He was absolutely brilliant and I remember his passion for (what we called) social studies. In one of the lessons, I remember he started quietly singing the jingle for the toy "Marvel the Mustang." As he noticed no one paying attention, he slowly sang louder and louder until he was practically shouting. When we were at at cast party for the Brillianteen show "L'il Abner," I reminded him of this. He told me that the reason he did it was because he was bored with the lesson. We talked about a few other things then, and he told me he wanted to study political science and maybe one day go into politics. That was the last time I saw him - a few days later he got sick and died. When that happened, the world lost a potentially great man. His memory is a blessing to me, and I hope it remains so for all of his friends and family.

I knew Scott at Chute, but only briefly. He was already one of those rare orignal thinkers whose authenticity freed the rest of us to be ourselves. His loss was the occasion of my first musings on the big questions of life. Why would such an obviously gentle and valuable guy have to die so young?
