Karen Jane (Gies) Phelps

Karen Jane (Gies) Phelps, 62, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Bethel Manor.

Karen was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 20, 1956 to James J. Gies and Marilyn J. (Houston) Hephner. She was a 1974 graduate of Central High School. Karen loved being outdoors and enjoyed babysitting her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Karen is survived by her mother, Marilyn J. (Houston) Hephner; sisters, Debbie Market of Evansville, IN and Kathy Mattingly (Charley) of Owensboro, KY; brothers, William Gies of ID and James Gies (Lori) of Danville, KY; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her son, Jay Hatcher; husband, Sam Phelps and her father.
