Evansville, Ind. - Joan Elizabeth "Joanie" (Tyree) Scott, 65, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at the Linda E. White Hospice House on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
Joanie was born in Evansville, Indiana on November 1, 1956 to the late Robert and Jeannine (Hirsch) Tyree. She earned a bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of Southern Indiana in 1996 and went on to receive her master of science degree from Indiana University in 2003. Encouraging children's creativity and imagination was Joanie's greatest passion. Throughout her career she has worked in Virginia Beach, VA, Evansville, IN and in Parkersburg, WV. She worked for the CAPE Head Start program in Evansville and as an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech and the University of Southern Indiana before becoming the Manager of the Deaconess Children's Enrichment Centers in Evansville and Henderson. She retired from Deaconess on June 4, 2021. She collaborated and mentored educators through the Reggio approach. Joanie was very active in the community, serving on the boards and committees for multiple organizations including, but not limited to, the EAECA, ARC of Evansville, AEYC Public Policy Committee, Children's Museum of Evansville, and the Ivy Tech Early Childhood Education Board. She was also very instrumental in the creation of the Wesselman Woods Nature Playscape. She was a faithful member of Bethel Church in Evansville. Spending time and traveling with her family were very important to Joanie. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, educator and friend.
