Murray Deutsch

(July 4, 1943 – November 21, 2025)

In Loving Memory of Murray Deutsch

Murray Deutsch, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in 1943 in the Bronx, NY, Murray left this world the same way he lived in it: surrounded by people who adored him and probably still trying to negotiate a better deal.

Murray lived a life defined by devotion to his family, to his work, and to the countless people whose lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and steady kindness. He had a love of music and was classically trained from a young age.

Murray married his high school sweetheart from Fair Lawn High School, Maxine Solan, beginning a partnership that has endured for 61 years. Their life together was filled with deep love, mutual respect, and a shared spirit of adventure. Maxine was the love of his life, his partner in everything, and the only person who could reliably beat him in an argument.

A proud graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business (1963) and later earning his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Murray went on to build an accomplished career in the garment and textile industry. His work took him throughout Asia in the 1970s and later to Central America and the Dominican Republic, where he developed both a keen eye for clothing manufacturing and a world-class talent for telling stories which are always worth hearing no matter how many times you’ve heard them.

Over the years, Murray made homes in Franklin Lakes, NJ; Boca Raton, FL; and New Preston, CT. Each place has been enriched by his presence and the community he cultivated.

Murray is survived by his devoted wife, Maxine, and their three children: Emily Shiller (Stephen Shiller), Kenneth Deutsch (Zizette Deutsch), and Gregg Deutsch, and his brothers, Steven Deutsch and Gary Adler. He was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Deutsch.

Nothing brought Murray more joy than being a GREAT grandfather, especially being able to share his many stories with them. He leaves behind eight loving grandchildren:

Matthew Shiller and his wife, Courtney Stephens Shiller; Samantha Shiller; Sam Deutsch; Zachary Deutsch; Maya Deutsch; Alexis Deutsch; and Jack Deutsch.

Murray’s legacy lives on in their achievements, their kindness, and the strong family bonds he helped shape.

Murray will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity and his curiosity.

He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, a legacy of stories and laughter, and a lifetime of lessons, some of which we’re still figuring out.

May his memory be a blessing to ll who knew him.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Lake Waramaug Conservancy 50 Cemetery Road, Warren, Connecticut 06754.

It seemed like Murray and I were always in homeroom together, given the way our last names were alphabetically close.  I recall he was always a congenial and happy guy, who was also quite a pianist.  I will remember him being just that way.
