In Memory

Lisa Wood

Lisa Gail Wood, 59, of Fair Oaks, California, died Tuesday, August 12, after a lengthy illness. She was born to the late Havard Wood and his wife Jeanette in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1955. Lisa grew up in Fairborn, Ohio and earned her degree in graphic design from the University of Cincinnati in 1977. She moved to California and worked in Sacramento area graphic design studios until opening her own business, Lisa Wood Design. She married architect Dave Piches in 1989, and together they shared a passion for art and design. Principles of clean design guided Lisa's work for a range of clients including corporations, water agencies, local governments, schools, and non-profit organizations. Her outdoor graphics appear in the cities of Roseville, Elk Grove, and Fair Oaks. Lisa's public service included award-winning work for the Sacramento Theatre Alliance, tutoring for the Sacramento Literacy Program, and maintaining an oak grove in the American River Parkway. Lisa lived an active life with interests in hiking, gardening, roller blading, and dance. Passionate about fitness and health, she practiced and taught yoga. Her adventures with Dave typically involved culture, art, and nature, often with a strong dose of strenuous activity. Lisa also had a playful side, sometimes adopting an alter ego complete with blonde wig and glasses or putting on the glamour at Oscar Night parties. Lisa developed many relationships in Sacramento, Fair Oaks, and Roseville. She enjoyed outings with friends, hiking in the hills, visiting big cities and their art museums, and with husband Dave hosting numerous gatherings at home that brought family and friends together. And though she moved across the country to forge her life, Lisa always enjoyed returning to her extended North Carolina family, especially during Beach Week on the Atlantic coast. Lisa is survived by her husband Dave Piches, her mother Jeanette Wood, sister Joni Gruber and her husband Nick, and sister Donna Wood and her sons Isaac and Joshua Evans, and her sister-in-law Donna Estridge and husband Paul. The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the American River Parkway Foundation in Sacramento. Friends and acquaintances of Lisa are welcome to share their memories at Dave and Lisa's home in Fair Oaks on Sunday August 17 at 3:00 pm.
