Jan. 17, 1949 — May 14, 2015

Micheal C. Nourot, 66, of Benicia, passed away suddenly, but peacefully Thursday afternoon at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center, surrounded by a standing room-only crowd of family and friends. He was born in Riverside, grew up in Davis and Fairfield and has lived in Benicia since 1974.

Micheal earned his bachelor’s degree at California College of Arts and Crafts and began blowing glass in 1970. He worked in Italy at the Venini Factory, then opened Nourot Glass in 1973 in San Francisco. Micheal then moved the studio to Benicia in August 1974. Mike has made glass for the Pope, presidents and other dignitaries for over 45 years. Blowing glass was his passion, his career and his profession. As he always said, he danced with the glass. He loved all aspects of the glass studio and spent many hours and weekends at his shop in Benicia. His son Nicholas, 32, has taken over the glassworks and will continue the business.

Fly fishing was like a religion to Micheal and his church was the Fall River in Northern California. He also loved traveling to Montana each summer for fishing at a dude ranch when his children were younger.

Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Corcoran; sons, Nick (fiance Jessie Moran) and Gabe Nourot; daughter, Lois (Bryan) Baeta; siblings, Patrick (Pam), David, Dee, Barbara (Charlie) Early, Mary Nourot (Peter Orr), Matthew (Julie) Nourot; grandchildren, Logan Micheal, Zana and Lila; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved red dachshund, Dixie.

A memorial will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015, at The Wednesday Club, 225 Sacramento St., Suisun City, Calif. The family prefers donations in his name be made to Cal Trout.

Arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia. Please visit the online tribute at www.passalacquafuneralchapel.com.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I remember him well and visited his studio during the 1980s, before I moved to Chicago. He was always a person who had a big soul and a true artist. I am saddened to hear about his death. Rest in peace Mike.
