Thomas Beldon Bushey

July 16, 1925 — April 12, 2017

Tom was born in 1925 and adopted at the age of one by Clay and Riloa Bushey. The family lived in Glendale, California.

At the age of 17, Tom enlisted in the Navy and served on a mine sweeper during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Navy, he went to Occidental College and earned his teaching degree. He married Lynn in 1952, and started their family.

While moving north, Tom worked at small schools, he later landed in Fairfield, California, in 1959. He then taught at Armijo High School and was Dean of students at Fairfield High. He then went on to be the principal at Suisun Valley and Falls Elementary schools. The final leg of his carrier took him to Willows, California, where he became the Superintendent of the Hamilton school district and finally Superintendent of schools in Maxwell, California, where he then retired.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Lynn Miller; his son, Greg Bushey and his wife, Linda; son, Jeff Bushey; grandchildren, Elise Cardwell, Samuel Cardwell, Thomas Bushey, Adam Bushey, Clay Bushey and Jake Bushey; great-grandchildren, Cayden Ginsburg and Samuel Cardwell.

Tom is preceded in death by his mother and father, Clay and Riola Bushey; his daughter, Karen Cardwell.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Masonic Lodge, 412 Travis Blvd., Fairfield, California. Interment will be private.

Casey Coppock (1971)

What I remember about Tom Bushy is his love of the outdoors, especially the water. Those many trips to the ocean with scuba classes he taught . He and my father taught scuba classes at the old Fairfield plunge. He was a fun guy. My condolences to Greg, Jeff and Karen.
