In Memory

Diane Mallory (Rowland)

Diane Mallory Rowland passed away on February 10, 1987 at the age of 22, from cardiac arrhythmia. At the time of her death, she was employed by the National Institutes of Health where she was part of a research team working on AIDs, narcolepsy and other neurological disorders. She was extremely proud of her work and hoped to pursue a doctorate in medical research.

Diane left Marshall a year early to attend the University of Tampa before transferring to William and Mary where she graduated in 1985 with a degree in Biology. We were married that same year and lived in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC.

She was an avid scuba diver and animal lover who worshipped King Crimson, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Kate Bush and the Talking heads. Much to my perpetual chagrin, she hated Genesis but we found common ground in Peter Gabriel’s solo work.

A memorial scholarship has been established in her name and the names of a few other fallen comrades from William & Mary.
