I guess I've been motivated to write since everybody else has something to say, and being quiet is really not me. After graduating from Talladega College (HBCU) in Alabama where I served as junior and senior class president, I taught English at Redan High School in Atlanta. A year later I moved to Pittsburgh and got a job teaching English at a school for juvenile delinquents. It's very challenging, but I love it. I try to be as tough and as caring as Ms. Jackson. I was just recently married to my- i guess you can say -high school beau. We have one daughter, Teneisha. She is 15 going on 30, but she is a good kid. I cant stand no mess..lol. together the three of us have a pretty wonderful life---I'm lying they get on my nerves..naa we're good.
I am planning to be in New York for the Trelawny reunion, and I hope I get to see some of you guys there.
Wow...I have so many memories of my time at Knibb; they are all intertwined with all of my Jamaican living experiences since I left at a crucial age. But I"ll try to keep them separated.....
7th grade 7-2- Uniforms were always laying in the grass!!LMAO. I remember being forced to sing "All at Once" at the freshman talent show with Alvin Hines (we were caught singing it in class by some power hungry prefect), but at the show i think even Dumby booed me. Surprisingly Alvin didnt show up! I entered Mini Miss Knibb and placed 3rd, reciting some Louis Bennet poem...LMAO. My classmates were happy that I placed :)
8th grade-8-2 ..blaahh, I was in love all memories fade :) except for Zion bread! I can still taste the hot, buttery, cotton-like melt of perfection in my mouth as i type :O Then it was banned!
9th grade- 9-4 ..I got over it :). Entered and won Miss Grade Nine..I was a miming fool, since that seems to be more accepted than reciting poetry! I remember us (me, Jessica, Sheekah, Carlene, Terr and more) raising money, selling cheesetrix to go to Champs and anywhere there would be a gathering of "BOYS". We even made cheerleading uniforms and had to coolest teacher (MR. Mac) sponser us! We were determined. We would get Pruff's van and be out!! Those were the days! We were bad!
10th grade- didnt make 10x was in 10-4 next best thing, you're smart but cool. I remember Mr. Perry's spanish class with Janice, Blacks we used to cut up. I remember when we used to sit under the almond tree because we didnt have teachers. Slow walking around the track when we were supposed to be running, paying to wear jeans on certain days, sports days.
11th grade - I remember being excited to be in my skirt and tie!! I remember Ms. Cumberbatch walking aimlessly around the school- didnt she have class to teach? I remember my last day at Knibb; it was sports day or something like that..and I remember "Idle Juby?" playing. Everytime I hear that song it takes me back there. I left Ja in Feb. 1990
Random- remember the protest about zinc after Gilbert and the Ben Johnson fiasco..wow! the head boy and head girl votes?
