Eric Carpenter was murdered on August 7, 2001 in Fayetteville, NC at the age of 20. A very active member of the Class of 2000, Eric was an outstanding student, friend, and role model. The Class of 2000 would like to honor Eric's memory and thank him for his contributions to our class.
I got on here to see what had been written about Eric. I didn't want to be the first one to write anything, but Eric deserves it.
Eric was a good friend. I met him in 8th grade and he always made me laugh with his dry wit. One of my favorite memories of Eric was one night him and Leonard came in to Peaden's and sat at one of my tables. They were too funny together. Anyways, they left a really generous tip, especially for all of us to be in highschool and really not have any money. They were awesome. And remember how Eric was so smart that he would be so bored in class? He was super smart. I can see him now putting Elmer's glue in his hair during trig and writing on his shoes. Remember the orange pants and checkered shoes? Remember how he LOVED WWF? Those were good times, good times.
I remember the night Mandy Plummer called me to tell me Eric died. I was heartbroke. His funeral was packed. I cried my eyes out during Vince Gill's "Go Rest High On That Mountain" at the funeral. Too touching.
I say all that to say this.... Eric, you are truly missed. You have not been forgotten, even 10 years later. I would also say this to the c/o 2000 and my friends, if you were to die today or tonight, do you know where you would spend eternity? Life is so short and so fleeting. John 3:16
So glad that you took the initiative to post this Jennifer. May I also include Kelsea Helton in this memorial. I remember seeing them frequently Spring semester 2001 at ECU and then, only a few months later...only days after being with them, they were gone. Kelsea lived below me at ECU (of course Eric was there often :-) and we would all go to the cafeteria together...and we were always laughing. As Eric was indeed such a happy fun loving guy that touched all those who met him. I too met him upon moving to Pine Forest in Middle school and remember him welcoming me with open arms...You are missed Eric and Kelsea...
