Kelsea Helton was murdered in Fayetteville, NC on August 7, 2001 at the tender age of 20. The Class of 2000 would like to honor Kelsea as one of our beloved classmates and friend.
I met Kelsea for the first time in 7th grade at Fayetteville Christian School. We became fast friends even after her family PCSed to the DC area for 8th and 9th grades. They moved back for 10th grade where she was at Terry Sanford and then for junior and senior year she was Pine Forest.
Kelsea had a turbulent life at some points but one of the things that always struck me was her kindness and her loyalty to her loved ones. One of my best memories was staying over at her house before she moved and staying up late, dancing in the kitchen with her and her sisters and mom. We sadly had a falling out shortly before her death and I regret not reaching back out to her to at least right it. Life is too short for regrets but that is one I will always keep.
Kelsea, you were a blazing star on this earth who burned out too soon. I miss you everyday. You would have been a wonderful mother. I hope you have found peace.
I remember when I first heard about what happened to Kelsea and Eric. I was at work and the TV was on when I heard their names announced on the news. It really caught me off guard and I had to take a seat for a moment and collect my thoughts. As I sat there in silence I said a prayer for them and their families and their unborn child. They are too great individuals who have been and will continue to be missed.
