Elizabeth Huskey (Simmons) - Class Of 1976 VIEW PROFILE

The Rev. Elizabeth Huskey Simmons, 61, of Phoenix, AZ, died peacefully in her home Thursday, May 9, 2019, after a year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Christ Church of the Ascension, in Phoenix, AZ, with the Rev. Daniel P. Richards presiding, and the Rev. Jon Coffey, guest preacher.

Born December 26, 1957, in Tokyo, Japan, to Ronald Huskey and Helene (McGuire) Huskey, Liz grew up traveling the world as an “Army brat.” Her parents settled in Fayetteville, NC, when she was 11 years old, eventually attending Douglas Byrd High School, where she graduated in 1976. She then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she played in the Marching and Pep Bands for Tarheel Football and Basketball games. She graduated in 1980 with a B.A. degree in Journalism.

She attended the General Theological Seminary in New York City, where she graduated in 1994, and was ordained as an Episcopal Deacon in 1994, in Fayetteville, NC, then as an Episcopal Priest in 1995, in Buffalo, NY.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister, Nancy Huskey Straw. She is survived by her siblings, Kathy Huskey, Mike Huskey, and Julie Huskey.

Her cremains will be interred at St. Paul’s-in-the-Pines Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, NC, in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St. Paul’s-in-the-Pines Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, or Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, AZ.
