HAYESVILLE - Mrs. Hilda Joanne "Joey" Bunce Jones, 49, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday, May 1, 2009, in her home.

Joey was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Hayesville. She graduated from Douglas Byrd High School, Chowan College and Fayetteville State University with a degree in elementary education. She was employed with Clay County Schools in Hayesville.

The visitation was held at 5 p.m., May 3, 2009, at Townson- Rose Funeral Home in Hayesville. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Hayesville. The burial followed in the church cemetery.

Joey is survived by her husband of 28 years, Danny; three children, Joshua, Daniel and Rebecca, all of Hayesville; parents, Bill and Joanne Bunce of Fayetteville; sister, Amy Bunce of Fayetteville and her children, Lindsay and Whitney Vickers of Los Angeles; brother, Dean Bunce and his wife, Gail, and their children, Liza, Billy and Alison, all of Apex; brother Alex "Mac" Bunce of Fayetteville; three uncles, Jimmy Bunce and his wife, Carol, of Raeford, Jack Bunce and his wife, Mary, of Charleston, S.C., and Leighton McGill and his wife, Mary Jo, of Bermuda Run; three aunts, Hilda McGill of Eastover, Inez Bunce Barbour and her husband, Lowell, of Raleigh, and Mary Lou Bunce Burgess and her husband, Bill, of Atlanta; and many cousins.

Joey's wish was to have a scholarship fund for seniors of Hayesville High School with a family member suffering from cancer. Memorials may be made to the Joey Jones Cancer Scholarship Fund, Nantahala Bank & Trust, 102 Highway 64 East, Hayesville, NC 28904.
