Marie Johnson (Pigott)

Marie Johnson Pigott, 97, of Raleigh, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2015. She was born on October 14, 1917. Marie enjoyed good health most of her 97 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Harold Pigott.

Marie taught history at Seventy First High School for twenty years before retiring from Douglas Byrd High School in 1979. She was active in the Retired School Personnel Organization and served as a secretary with the Cumberland Country Historical Society. She was also very active in her church , Haymount United Methodist and in her Sunday School class, the Barrington Bible Class. Marie was a loyal wife to Harold, loving mother to her two children and adored her three grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Margret Pigott Goad and son in law, Marshall Goad, of Raleigh; two sisters Mildred Johnson and Maynell Outen; three grandchildren, Laura, Jonathan, and Christopher; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 1:45 pm, Wednesday, prior to the service.

Ms. Pigott was a great teacher.  I love reading history to this day.  Thank you for your informative classes.

Jay Costa (1976)

Best History teacher ever.  My job as a "on-air personality" was better because of her teaching me the necessity of studying history.  Where do you think all those trivia questions come from.  RIP...
