John Gunderson, 1947-2016

John Gunderson, 69, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Pioneer Cottages, with his family by his side.  Born 6/16/1947 and Passed 12/23/2016

John Phillip Gunderson was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Kenneth Lauren and Edna Catherine (Haave) Gunderson of Norwegian heritage. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. John graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1965 and attended Fergus Falls Junior College for two years and then Wahpeton Science for an additional two years, graduating with an electrical degree.

He then worked at Hintgen-Karst Electric in Fergus Falls and in Fargo for several years before returning to Hintgen-Karst as an owner along with four other individuals. After residing in Fergus Falls for many years, he moved to beautiful Crystal Lake near Pelican Rapids. He moved to Pioneer Heritage Home in 2010.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, active in the choir as well as Boy Scout Troop #504. His hobbies included reading, listening to good music, woodworking and traveling in many states. John built a hydroplane which he tested on Wall Lake and took great pride in.

He is survived by his sister, Kathryn of La Crosse, Wisconsin, two nieces, Lynn and Beth, along with a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Kenneth and Edna, and special aunt, Emma Stortroen.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls.

The Rev. Kate Bruns will officiate.
