Glennallen resident Mark James Thorne, 55, died Oct. 13, 2007, from drowning in a boating accident. A private service for family and friends was held in Anchorage. A celebration of life was also held at Riley's, formerly the Cheechako Bar. 

Mr. Thorne was born Sept. 14, 1952, in Fort Knox, Ky., to James and Joanne Thorne. He came to Alaska in 1971 and lived in Anchorage for 31 years before moving out to Lake Louise. He was in the Air Force. Mr. Thorne also attended college at the University of Alaska Anchorage for more than three years. He then became a big game guide. Mr. Thorne's special interests were hunting, fishing and archery. He also was an avid golfer. 

He is survived by his father, James F. Thorne of Billings, Mont.; daughters, Erin M., Allison K. and Kate J. Thorne; brothers, Robert J. Thorne II of Anchorage, Andrew M. Thorne of Eklutna, and James F. Thorne Jr. of Anchorage; sisters, Patricia A. Stein of Phoenix, M. Suzanne Thorne of Anchorage, Christine A. Manuel of Houston, Texas, and Ann C. Doss of Anchorage; and life companion, Helen E. Kravitz. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne T. Thorne. Arrangements are with Witzleben Family Funeral Homes.
