John Thomson

John was a lifelong resident of Ferndale and a 1970 graduate of Ferndale High School. He also attended St. James High School with the exception of most of his senior year. He was the collections manager for Member Mortgage Services for 14 years. Previously he was the Office Manager of North Oakland Community Credit Union in Waterford. He began his Credit Union career at St. Dennis Parish Credit Union in 1977 and then worked at a variety of credit unions, until joining Member Mortgage Services. John was an avid reader and was happiest with a good book or good movie. He was an accomplished guitarist in the band “Couzens”, playing in local pub's in and around the Detroit area. He was also an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and very proud of his Harley. He was a great public speaker, able to “To confer, converse and otherwise hob-nob with his fellow wizards" according to his family. John loved practical jokes and also enjoyed engaging others in controversial subjects because he enjoyed the debate. John had a big heart and was always helpful to others. He enjoyed championing the underdog. Loving father of Patrick, James (Lyubava) and Christopher (Baily). Brother of Michael (Kathryn), Patrick (JoAnn), Margaret Conroy (Daniel), Morgan (Dawn), Ann O'Neil (Michael) and Thomas (Donna). Also survived by his former wife Kathleen Thomson and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service Friday 5p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1669 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham. Visitation begins at church 4p.m.
