Sister Karen Larkins, CSJ, 56, died Monday, March 17, 2008, in Magee-Womens Hospital, Oakland, in her 22nd year as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. A daughter of the late John A. and Margaret Putz Larkins, Sister Karen entered the Congregation from St. James Parish, Ferndale, Mich, in 1986. She served as campus minister at California University of Pennsylvania from 1989 to 1994. After ministering as pastoral associate at Good Samaritan Parish, Ambridge, and providing office support through Kelly Services, Sister Karen served as campus services manager at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Schaumburg, Ill., from 1997 to 2001. During that time she also coordinated Ministers of Care at Queen of the Rosary Parish in Elk Grove Village, Ill. Sister Karen had been campus minister/pastoral associate at St. Thomas More University Parish in Indiana, Pa., from 2001 until the present. While her quick smile and keen sense of humor warmly engaged others. Sister Karen’s gentle, quiet presence reflected her deep desire that God be the center of her life. Sister Karen is survived by two sisters, Annette (Jerry) Lindley, of Algonquin, Ill., and Clarice (Steve) Rybicki, of Washington, Mich,; two brothers, Robert (Patricia) Larkins, of Three Rivers, Mich., and Donald (Adrienne) Larkins, of Warren, Mich.; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Mouthhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sister’s Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in the name of Sister Karen may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State St., Baden PA 15005.
