I played baseball with Jodie even before I went to Festus. I remember him as a fun-loving individual who was always trying to make me laugh. Back then we were both kinda on the fast and small side so we had some fellowship stealing bases and playing the outfield. I eventually grew a little bigger, but Jodie just built a bigger truck! He was a guy that did what he liked to do and had little use for trying to impress others or to put anyone else down. His death was tragic and it came way to early, he was the first friend I ever had that died.
I wish he was still around making us laugh. Rest in peace!

Jodie was my boyfriend in middle school, but beyond that, our families had been friends for a long time. Both of our Dad's worked at the plant and we always remained friends. I still remember the day my Dad told me what had happened and we immediately drove to their house. I was adamant about finding a bracelet that Jodie had given me, which I wore for several days thereafter. I still see his sisters at church and run into his Mom and Dad in town. I still see the sadness in their eyes. It is nice to know that his classmates are still thinking of him. He was really a great person. I'm sure it would mean alot to his family that this was set up as a memorial to him.

Jody was a friend to everyone...an enemy to no one. I remember Jody dating back to 3rd grade, my first year at Festus, in Miss Canepa's class. Jody was the typical childhood friend, your friendship would either strengthen or fade, depending on if you were in the same class. Jody and I were casual friends throughout school, always friendly, but never especially close. However, our senior year, as cross country teammates, we spent additional time together, got to know each other better, and became good, solid friends. My fondest memory of Jody was the state cross country meet in November of '88 in Jefferson City. Jody had trained hard, dedicated himself to improvement, and ran exceptionally well that year. At the state meet Jody ran a personal best and contributed to our 3rd place team finish at state. He was very proud of that accomplishment, his parents were proud, and I was very proud of him! I still have the team pictures and snapshots...all of us smiling, happy, winners. That is how I will always remember Jody...a happy, smiling, winner. I am thankful for that year.

I remember when I found out about what happened when I was away at school. It is didn't seem real because we had fun out quite a bit the last year. Seems like we were always running into each other at parties.

Jodie was a great guy. He always had a joke to tell you or would talk to you about what was going on. Jodie was one of the first people I met when I started attending Festus my freshman year. He was always a friend.
