FROM BELINDA HARGROVE CARNLEY

Jan just called me and said Rex Hamilton passed away.  This saddens my heart.  Me, Jan and Marsha visited Rex when he was in the nursing home in Crestview back in the fall.  I think Gale and jan visited him also, along with other classmates.  He was battling losing his leg, and with the loss of his kidney transplant, was on dialysis again.  I kept in touch til about January with Rex.  He  moved from Crestview Nursing & Rehab to one in Destin.  He was near his sons in Destin.  Later I tried to call, and never got in touch with him.  This is so sad.  The last time I talked to him, he was able to get up and move around, and was in line for a prosthesis.  But that was January or February.

He fought a tough battle.  Maybe someone else can fill us in.  I know Russell Norris was keeping in touch with him.  He is the classmate that first called me when all this started happening.

My heart is full of sadness today.... Rex was just a sweet, gentle spirit.  He and I met up in Opp on several occasions about 10 years ago when his dad and my mom were having radiation treatments.

We sat in the waiting room, talking and laughing about the craziness of our classmates and our escapades.  On one of the days, my mom came out and said she could hear us laughing all the way to the radiation treatment room!!!  It made her happy to hear us laugh!!

When Jan and I visited Rex back before Christmas, he was still the same sweet Rex but in really bad physical condition.  My heart hurt so badly for him that I just wanted to scoop him up and hold him and tell him all would be ok.  His backside was aching from being in bed so much so the momma in me just rolled him over and ..... yes, I massaged his backside!!!
