Subject: Our dear friend Karen

Hello all of you fabulous friends of Karen’s:

I am so brokenhearted to tell you that Karen passed away early this morning, holding Greg’s hand, the love of her life.  Just as she’d told us it would happen, she slipped away.  Albeit too quickly and after a long, tough, escalated struggle.

Now, as you all know Karen so very well, she did let us know she would want this message to be light hearted and humorous.  Really Karen??  Ever the task master, right to the end!

I could never pretend to put this in the witty and devilishly humorous words that Karen would have managed so beautifully, but here we go…

Karen has loved each and every one of us with all of her heart, sometimes generously showering us with it and sometimes delivering it with her own ever so sharp, pesky little ways.  But always with her love, brilliant wit, insight on life’s ups and downs, her appreciation of beauty, her great love of family and friends, all with a simultaneously big love and light hearted, devil may care attitude.

That is the attitude she’s had for these last two plus years while, as she’s told us, being “annoyed” by cancer.  Unbelievable perseverance, positive attitude and strength, always with humor.

Every one of you knows that what Karen wants most is for us to remember her with love, deep laughter, and sharing of great stories.

So please hug each other, raise a glass if so inclined, and send cheers to Karen, wishing her God speed and remembering that:

“Life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.” (Quoted from Papyrus)

We love you, Karen, and will miss you most dearly and promise to remember you always with laughter and gusto.  Greg, Noel, Barbara, Jack, Gretchen and Eric and all of your family, you are in our thoughts and prayers.  Much love to you all with many thanks for sharing Karen with all of us.  What a precious gift.

Please stay posted for plans for a gathering in the future to celebrate Karen.

Please note that the family kindly requests donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

Many thanks.

Teresa Bugella
