 Karla graduated UMD with a BS in Psychology in 1992. She graduated in 1997 with a Masters in Psychology from Loyola of Baltimore, MD. Karla had a good job and great friends and living in Baltimore when she was diagnosed with cancer in January 2001. She moved back to MN. Karla was diagnosed with Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma (cancer of the Adrenal Gland), an extremely rare form of cancer. Only 2 in 1 million of people who have cancer have this type. After radiation and several bouts of chemotherapy, and many bad days as well as good days, Karla passed on October 18, 2003 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Mpls. She is missed. John & Sally Ede

Thought I'd share a memory I have of Karla. After college, I moved to Baltimore, MD for a couple years ('93-94) and bumped into Karla once or twice on flights home to visit family in MN. We may have also bumped into each other one night while we were out in Baltimore with friends. Karla recognized me on both occassions and said "hi", and it was nice to reconnect with someone from back home as I was somewhat homesick at the time. Ironically, my job had me visiting Loyola University periodically, too, so I had forgetten that was another connection we must've had in Baltimore. I just thought it was nice that Karla wasn't shy about saying "hi" to someone and it was good to reconnect with her back then.
Life is precious. Don't wait to tell people what you need to before it's too late. God bless.
