Mike Fournier

Mike Fournier

Michael R. Fournier, 20, hospital corpsman third class with the U.S. Naval Hospital, died in a two-vehicle accident in Philadelphia late Wednesday, May 17, 1984. He is the son of Raymond and Ruth Fourniner of Fort Dodge.

Fournier's vehicle and another car collided head-on on the Walt Whitman Bridge crossing the Delaware River. The accident occurred about midnight. The other driver suffered minor injuries.

Fournier participated in a softball game the night of the accident. He played with the hospital's men's softball team. Following the gam, he stayed to wath the women play. He was returning home when the accident occurred. Fournier apparently crossed the center line in the path of the other vehicle, according to police officials in Philadelphia.

the U.S. Naval Hospital had a memorial service for Fournier on Friday. Two hundred people attended the service.

"He was a well-liked member of this command. There were a lot of people crying at today's memorial service," Commander David Vosloh, executive officer with the Naval Hospital, sald.

Fournier was born in 1963. He joined the Navy in June, 1981.

Fournier's body will be flown to Fort Dodge and escorted by a hospital corpsman third class.
