Memorial services for Gary Joseph Lake, 51, who passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at home were held on Saturday, November 1 at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale, Iowa.

Gary graduated from St. Edmond High School in Fort Dodge and Iowa State University. After college he started his career at the Fort Dodge Messenger as a sports editor. Gary then went on to be a sports editor for the Des Moines Register for 20 years.

Gary was an avid Iowa State, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with family and friends at Lake Okoboji.

Gary is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Carlie, Dylan, and Delanie Lake; step children, Nic, Kelsey, and Michael Staub; father, Elba Lake; brothers, Dan (Annie) Lake, and Kyle (Aimee) Lake; nephews, Nathan and Charlie Lake and nieces, Ryann and Lydie Lake. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Lake.
