Karan Kreighbaum (Faul)

Any of the Class of 1961 gals who are in the Ft Madison area... we'll be having our monthly 'girls' luncheon at noon this Friday (4/26) at The Cellar in Keokuk. Let me know if you'll be joining us so I can make reservations. Hope to have a good turnout. We always have such a good time... never run out of things to talk about... whether it be current news or reminiscing.

Another happy luncheon with members of the Class of '61.  And the gals were even blessed to have Charlie LaFrenz & his lovely wife, Janet, join us today! We met at The Cellar in Keokuk. If any one hasn't had a chance to eat there... give it a try. Great food and very nice staff. Next month's luncheon will be at Pizza Hut in Ft Madison at noon on Friday, the 31st. Hope to have another good crowd.

Just got back from lunch with classmates. We went to Keokuk to the Cellar this time. It was a 1st for me. Good food and good group. More people need to join us. It is once a month usually the last Friday of each month. Next one will be May 31st noon at the Pizza Hut in Ft. Madison. It is a good way to keep in touch with everybody. Now I'm going to get out and enjoy this beautiful day we are having.

I echo Karan & Georgia on the great time today at the paril luncheon w/classmates. We did have a gentleman this month, more need to join us. We do a lot of recalling about the good ole days of HS. Each one of us can remember something different about the same situation. There were 14 today and we're going for pizza next month. We discussed a bunch of us going to Branson in Sept. Several of you have responded saying you'd like to attend. Larry & I go as often as we can...so much to do there. Southern MO is very hilly and you can't be in a hurry to get anywhere, usually due to lots of traffic. But everyone is in the same boat and you just relax and roll w/the flow. We even have a classmate who lives there and I'm sure he'd like to see all who could go. He has given me lots of info of different places to eat and things to see.

I'm wondering if there's anyone one who reads the forum, who went to Jackson Grade School. I'm wondering what happened to some of the kids who didn't go on w/us thru Jr. High and on to HS. Does anyone remember Sherry Wright, Jenny Emrick, Linda Turner, Katryn Johnson, Steve Currier, Ernie Gallaway? Would like to see some comments. Trying to remember the janiter's name, tall skinny guy, lived on the NW corner of 4th. & G.I think I remember where everyone lived and most of their families.

Finally remembered the janitor's name at Jackson School, it was Mr. Winke. Our teachers were, Kindergarten Mrs. Burton, 1st. Mrs. Stimpson, 2nd. Miss Mc Donald, 3rd. Mrs. Burton, again,  4th. Miss Menke, 5th, Miss Eckland, 6th. Mr. Reese, he was also the principal. Miss Taylor came twice a wk. for P.E. and we went to Old Settler's Park to play ball. Everything seemed so simple back then. We would walk or roller skate to school, played hopscotch, jacks and jump rope. I still have me jacks in the drawstring bag that my Mom made for me to carry them to school.

Does anyone else remember things or events from grade school?

Linda

Hey Linda...I remember the  annual " Jackson Jamboree".  And especially the cake walk !  One year I won 4 cakes.  When I took the 4th one home...since I lived right accross the street...Mom said if I win another one I had to refuse and let someone else have a chance... ha-ha!

Nancy...i DO remember the Jamboree, we always looked fwd to them. I also remember you living across the street, and Carol Van Auken lived on 3rd. street, across form the east side play ground. She was in Marsha's class. I don't remember you starting in Kindergarten w/us, though. When did you start at Jackson? What else do you remember?

I celebrated by going to Champaign, IL, our oldest grandson, Caleb, graduated from the College of Engineering ths afternoon. He was awared the Bronze Tablet, which is the top 3% of that college. He will start in Aug. in Seattle, WA for MicroSoft. We are very proud of him. Life goes on...

James Hawtrey

Good Morning,

To celebrate my 70th birthday, May 14th, I am planning to go to Paris to pretend I am an artist.

Meaning I intend to take along some drawing and paint supplies and to do some work / sketches.

and      To see what I can see. Notice I did not say to see everything.

After all a week is a week and that is all my son can afford to stay a way from his work.

What would you not want to miss given my rather limited time?

Have a happy day.

Sincerely,  Jim Hawtrey

I vacationed in Paris in 2001 and defnitely plan to return.  A week is only a sampling of things t o see,  Take a city tour and sit back and let the beauty of the City soak in.  There is a fabulous art outdoor setting at Montparnasse (I think that is the name, it is on a hill). The Arc de Tromphe and the list goes on.  I hope you are staying in a nice B&B.  They are wonderful in Paris.

Have a wonderful trip.  I am envious.

Here's hoping you all have a wonderful weekend. Here in good ol' Ft Madison, it's starting out to be a typical cold, rainy Memorial Day Weekend... aren't they all?!?!

Hope you all stay warm and dry.

sadYes Karen..hard to smile with all this rain and lots more to come I guess. No outdoor activities which can put a damper on family plans.   My sisters and I met this last weekend to decorate family graves and I'm glad we did. My son-in-law who is wanting to get his fields planted will not be a happy camper. He is already way behind.

Anyway, though, Happy Memorial Day  to you and yours.  See you for our class luncheon at the Pizza hut on the 31st.

Nancy

And you were missed Linda Lu !   There were 10 of us and the conversation was flowing.  Of course we are all so saddened by the passing of our classmate, Kay.

Our gardens are growing and that finds me outside allot...that is for sure.  My roses and lillies are coming on like gang busters.  And then I  " feel the need"  to fill my pots up with annuals and put in a perrenial in any empty spaces in my beds, ha-ha !  Just wish the ole body would cooperate and stop aching... this aging thing gets in the way, ha-ha!

Next  one is  at the Big Muddy in Burlington on the 28th.  Will be nice to catch up with you then...take care.

Hugs,Nancy
