Today I met my daughter and youngest granddaughter in Iowa City.  We spend the afternoon shopping for dresse for my oldest granddaughter's wedding.  Who should we see but Charlie and Janet LaFrenz.  Janet was also wedding dress shopping, but for her daughter's wedding. It definitely is a Small World!

As Sandy just said, we ran into each other in Iowa City, and WOW, she looks exactly like she did back in the olden days!  How do people do that?

Thanks Charlie!  Did Janet ever find a dress for thew wedding?

Charlie LaFrenz

Yes Sandi she did.  Were you all successful?  Janet is a little giddy right now because they had to order a size 4 instead of a 6.  I guess all that Yoga pays off.

'd be giddy too if I was waering a size 4.(Maybe when I was 4).  All three of us actually had success on Wednesday.  Unfortunately each of us ended up with an additional dress beside the one for the wedding.  Could be costly shopping with those two!

The time you three got to spend together and the fun you must have had was worth every penny.  Not only that, but you got to see me!  Some people are sooooo lucky!

I hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day Holiday.  I am working but enjoying the quiet time without phones ringing.  Although my clients have discovered over the many years that I am here almost 24/7.

I am leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow for a week-long continuing education class on representing clients before the IRS,  Taking my oldest son, Brent, with me.  Thinking that maybe I can soon hand over that part of the practice to him.  It is not as challenging for me as preparation of estate, trust and individual returns.  No retirement, just share the workload.  He rejoined my firm in January after a 13 year absence.  What a blessing that has been.

smileyHello Marcia,

Sounds like you are busy as usual but will be glad of your son getting back on board and lightening the load. We all know when we need to slow down.

I have just bought a different car...a 2012 Buick Verona.  A big step forward from driving my 20year old Ford Probe.  I now have allot of convenience with lots of remote features.  The best being starting & warming up the interior from a distance during the winter season?

Gardening still keeps me busy most of the year.  Even in winter I 'm busy with the planning of the next season.

take care, hugs, Nancy

Thanks Sharon for keeping us together.

I've been retired for a year and love it.  Will be spending a few days in Fort Madison around the first of October.  I am taking a pilgrimage across the country to visit the all places I've lived over my life.  It will be interesting sitting out in front of our old house on Avenue M thinking about the dreams and ambitions of the little kid that lived there seventy years ago.  Sure turned out different than he could have imagined.

Also am very much looking forward to the next reunion.  I'll be there but will probably have forgotten you.

OK, I've now been on the forum.  Hopefully everybody gets an email and will post a comment so people will know they are still alive.  If we don't hear anything we can only assume the worst.

Richard

Thought you all should know that Charlie LaFrenz had a heart valve replaced AND bypass surgery on Tuesday, Sept 9th at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and while they have had some ups and downs he seems to be on the mend and will be coming home soon! Keep Charlie in your prayers!

Thanks Richard for your kind words! In about a year we will start on the 55th reunion! We hope to have as good a turnout as we had at the 50th!

Hey buddy,

Hurry up and get well. We'll get a 1960 Buick and cruise FM like old times. Remember HY VEE and the gang who used to go out to Rodeo Park  after shift to eat water mellons and soda pop. We were too young for beer. Let's see, there was you, David Schliedt, David Holterhouse and me just care free and enjoying life.

Shortly thereafter we were at war. You and David in Thailand, Dave H at sea and me up to my ass in leeches and snakes. If I had known then what I know now I wolud have been the first to Canada. How's that for an old retired Army LTC. Should make you laugh to hear me say that.

Anyway, hurry up and get well.

Your good friend!

Bill Orr

Hi Charlie & Janet,   Bill and I just want to send along our good wishes and prayers for a total recovery from your recent heart surgery up in Iowa City.  Isn't modern medicine wonderful that they can now fix these ailments for our generation ?!?!?!  Take it easy on yourself and you will soon be back at the Bridge Table accumulating more Masters Points and then dancing up a storm with Janet !  Blessings, Sandy & Bill Matthews

October 15,  the dealine for filing 2013 tax returns is over!.  Whew!  My 48th Oct 15th and 28 years with my firm, MKD Business Services in Costa Mesa.  Going for 50 years!  BIG Party in the future!  No plans ever for retiring because I love what I do and have the most loyal clients anyone would ever want.  I am in third generations since I purchased the firm in 1985.  Have grown from 250 clients at acquisition to about 1,000 today.  Very little advertising, mostly referral.

The next few weeks will be wind down time and get ready for tax seminar travel starting the middle of November and ending the end of January 2015 while still managing my firm and gearing up for tax year 2014 filing.  And  the cycle of life goes on!

Looking forward to the 2016 Reuinion.

Good health and prosperity to all.

GOOD MORNING:  SANDY BUCKLEY MATTHEWS ask me to post some information for her. She is 15 days out of her surgery and her 12 inch incision is healing clean as a whistle and she is walking with the aid of a walker round and round the house at least 6 times per day for 10 minutes at a time. she has lost a little weight but she says that weight was just 'extra stuff' she didn't need anyway.  Sandy is only sleeping about three hours a night and then when she wakes up Bill helps her get her "turtle shell" brace back on. She wants to thank all the friends and classmates that have sent her cards and  phone calls.

While I am in this message let us all pray that Mary Vasquez Mendez will be good as new after her back surgery in Iowa City today the 21st of October. Mary has had ongoing back issues for years.

I hope this message finds you all well and enjoying this lovely Fall season. Fort Madison is a blaze with beautiful trees. Congrats to Marcia Conley for all her accomplishments and her desire to keep on working.

As Ever, Sharon Tincher Scholl-Nabulsi
