I like the fall. I don't do heat well! But any time is a great time to see the members of the Class of '61. laugh

I'm a warm weather person and would enjoy an outside event for an activiity.  Late spring or early summer.  Of course the weather here "changes on a dime".  So, back-up plans would be in order. An ole fashioned picnic at one of our beautiful parks sounds like fun.  Need to find out if city will have any special events going on that we would be interested in.  And I' m open to any date we choose and will enjoy our reunion.  Hugs to all, Nancy

I have no objection to either time.

If you need some help with it,  let me know.

I throw this out - What's the possibility of combining the reunion with another class- say Aquinas Class of 61. I think it would be fun.

Bill

Fall worked for our last one. I think combining with Aquinas would be okay.

Fall would be ok but will try to make it whatever date is decided.  Thanks for getting this started.

I would love to have some sweet corn but would rather have the reunion in the Fall.  Oct. was great last time but whatever you decide will be fine with me.  Looking forward to seeing everyone again.  Thanks for all your hard work.

This is my 2nd try at responding, I accidently hit something and everything disappears.  New computer!  Anyway, I prefer the fall.  The more I have to wear, the better I can hide my pot bellly.  Also, I would like to include Aquinas.  Had many friends  in that class.  Janet and I spent Christmas and New Years in Kauai in Hawaii.  I spoke almost everyday on the phone to Carol Kempter from the class of '61 and have remained in touch with others in that class.  I think many in that class would be interested in joining us.  Thank you, Sharon, for continuing to do all this work.

Thanks to all of you for your responses! its looking like the majority like Fall but that decision will be made later this year or very very early next year.

I hope you all are having a great winter and looking forward to Spring.

I don't do the message thing on our class site as much as I should... but I saw this on Facebook and just had to share it with all of you!

Hope you're all having a wonderful winter.

Just want to let you all now that Vincent Wright's sister Donna Hall passed away in Fort Madison on Saturday Feb 7th.  The funeral is at King Link and you can if you wish to leave a message on the website access it at KingLinkFuneral.com.  She suffered with pancreatic cancer for a long time and fought a good fight to the end.

Looking forward to seeing you folks in 2016. My personal challenge, in a run-up to the next FMHS reunion, is the 2016 RAGBRAI XLIV. I challenged my younger Brother Brad & we're planning the 2016 insanity now. RAGBRAI gets so many entry requests, they conduct a lottery to select the 8500 rider field. So, it's not guaranteed we'll get in, but, if not, we'll do some other multi-day ride.

Now, I'm 72, as many pounds overweight, workout sometimes, & Brad is 14 years younger, works out a lot, and looks like he could be on the cover of Mens Fitness. His reply to my challenge was: " averaging 67 miles per day for 7 days...piece of cake....but, it's just a ride, and YOU don't have to ride everyday". OK my Brother, now I'm more determined than ever to give this a go. I have contacted my biking consigliere and good friend Alan Bernstein. He's a serious bicyclist who has done individual time trials. He's trying to talk me into trading in my Trek hybrid for a more serious road bike. I'm not sure about that, since RAGBRAI is not a timed competition. But, anyways, people on road bikes routinely pass me on the bike trails going really really fast. I'm doing 12 mph & it seems like they are doing 20.

The weight challenge is another iteration of: increase workout times, eat less. Multi-day bicycle ride training is harder for me My personal best is 50 miles in about 4 hours. Next day, a much shorter ride, or, it a rest day. The problem is, I've never done several days in a row of that distance/speed. One limiting factor is how much time in the saddle can the old rear end take over a 7 day ride?

Any multi-day bicycle riders out there? Please advise.

Cheers all,

Jack

Forgot to add to previous RAGBRAI XLIV post. If anyone is interested in joining my challenge, let me know. We can form a team. Brad is a Bloodhounder too. so, we could dedicate the ride to Team Bloodhounds. Forza Segugi! Andiamo! (channeling the movie Breaking Away, lol)

Oops - reunion planning: any time but RAGBRAI week (July 24-July 30, 2016), & whenever the Mayflies emerge from the river. Aquinas invitation to join in would be good.

I have been providing ragbrai support for the past 15 years.

You have two choices:

1. The officially sanctioned ride which is run by caring officials. Equivlant to a Boy Scout Camp. Good but dull.

2. The unofficial groups that follow along. They are unsuppervised and party hard.

I recommend #2. Speciffically:  "Team Bad Boy" or  Team "Geoffs Bike And Ski"

Goggle Image their pictures to see what you get. They both have a lot of fun.

GOOD LUCK!

Bill

I am in Austin, TX celebrating Easter with my one of my daughters, Lori, at my son, Lamar's & his family, amoung the Blue Bonnets. It's pretty special.

In my spare time have been tracking down missing classmates. The latest is Terry Tykeson. I remember him talking about Marceline Missouri so traccked down his parents who are deceased. On the orbit he is mentioned as Terry N. and Julie Tykeson of Kansas City Missouri. Perhaps some of you who live in that part of the country could look him up and invite him to join the rest of us on the site. I will continue to work on it from this end. Thanks!

Was reading the Burlington Hawkeye newspaper this morniing and saw Mike Bowen's obituary & photo. Am surprised no one had put it on the forum yet. As I read the obit, saw that he has a 1/2 sister here in Hamilton, and she's a very good friend of mine. Had no idea of the connection w/Mike. She said he was diagnoised w/cancer about a month ago & went very fast. Was very sorry to hear of Mike's passing.
