You were such a good hearted and sweet boy. You were my first true love but it wasn't meant to be. I will always remember how great a friend you were to me and how bad I feel knowing you had lost your way. You had so much potential and so many gifts. So sorry I didn't keep up with you after school.
Miss you.....

Miss you "big brother " (he is 12 days older than me). Just a note and a prayer for your service in the Navy. The military will never know how much it cost you and how much you truly lost your way. I love you always and have great memories from first grade on up Miss you lots

Neil and I were best friends, hunting, double-dating, in Key Club... I remember his mom always saying, "Neil, you're in a fog, boy. You're in a fog!" His dad, from whom he inherited his alcoholism, would hide bottles of liquor all around in the barn, inside bales of hay, etc., and on Saturday nights we'd go on a kind of Easter egg hunt for some. I kept up with Neil from time to time after he came back from Nam, although I was living in DC and only occasionally visiting home. I remember watching his slow decline and trying to help but knowing I couldn't really, all the way to the end. I met his kids at the funeral and helped them a little until eventually they moved and I lost track of them. The girl in particular had been through hell as a child but was studying to be a nurse, and I believe became one. She was brave. But it was a sad story, for sure. I too still think of him sometimes.
