Dorothy Gordon Evans-McDowell


A Time To Be Born: Dorothy Gordon was born on Saturday, February 16, 1963 in Fort Pierce, Florida to the late Elder Raymond Gordon, Sr. and Mrs. Dora Lee Gordon.

A Time To Learn: “Dot”, as many affectionately knew her, received her basic education in the St. Lucie County School System and furthered her studies by completing the Police Academy and Criminal Justice programs at Indian River Community College. She later became employed as a Police Officer on the force in Indian River and St. Lucie Counties.

A Time To Love: Dorothy was married to Mac McDowell and was the mother of two beautiful daughters, Kayla Dominique Walker and Ce’Dra Simone Evans.

A Time To Be Honored: Detective Dorothy Gordon-Evans was the first African American female to be promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the history of the Fort Pierce Police Department and assigned to supervise a squad of detectives after 14 years of service. Sgt. Dorothy Gordon-Evans retired from the FPPD after 16 years of dedicated service.

A Time To Leave: On Sunday, August 17, 2003, Dorothy Gordon Evans-McDowell slipped away from those she loved and everyone that loved her, into the hands of Almighty God.
