Captain Ron Venderly

"P.M.S. & T." was the official title - Professor of Military Science and Tactics.  As a wise-off freshman I revised it to "Pot Metal Shaper and Trimmer" to amuse Diane Ferber in the hallway between classes one day.  Captain Venderly overheard - and I was reprimanded later, in private.

Captain Venderly gave regular ten-question quizzes in freshman military class.  One session the topic was tactical radio communications.  The interrogative:  what is a group of linked radios called?  Future Cadet Lt. Col. and Cadet Battalion Commander Don Luepke answered "a network."  The answer was incorrect, according to the P.M.S.&T.  The acceptable response was "net."  The argument that "net" was a shortened form of "network" didn't make the impression on Captain Venderly that Don hoped.  The answer stood as wrong.
