I was so stunned to hear of Richie's passing.  He had battled for so long, and with such a strong heart.  The comments from some of his students showed how loved and respected he was.  He will truly be missed by his family, friends, students, and all who have known him.  He is  "In the arms of the angels".  Claudia Flecca Pongratz

Growing up, the Lackman's back yard abutted my backyard, and as young kids Richie and I became good friends from the start. As a kid he even protected me from his big brother, Butch :) After high school, we ended up going to the same college and hung out together as we became acclimated to our new surroundings.

Always will remember Richie as a good person and a good friend. Reading all the heartfelt condolences for him on this site was so gratifying, and reinforced how much his classmates thought of him. A good guy who will surely be missed.

This is very sad. Richie fought this horrible disease with all he had and with such dignity. At our reunion he talked about all the wonderful doctors, nurses he had met and of course how supportive his family had been. I loved how Wanda and he were checking off their bucket list.
Richie was my first real boyfriend and we have kidded about that for 50 years. I don't think you ever forget that person. I won't. He was special .

Richie will always be one of the most positive, alive people on the planet.

Sorry to hear of Richie's passing.  Although I wasn't a close friend of his in high school, I remember him to be a friendly and popular person. Way too young to have died.  My condolences to his family.

This is sad news. Sincere condolences to Wanda, family and friends. Although I did not have the opportunity to get know Richie well, reading the heartfelt remembrances from his students was moving and familiar. Val Eichel and I are close, we call each other often, we have both been teachers for some part of our lives and, speaking about Richie"s lifelong teaching career, we both had the same reaction. Any treacher who creates a lasting impression of love and respect in their students' lives is a very special and wonderful person. Blue skies, Richie.

I will remember Richie always smiling.  He was a smart and kind man. Wish we all had more years with him💔

My sympathy goes out to his friend and family.  I remember the Ridgefield gang.  It is sad we all grew up together with fond memories.

I'm a little late posting here, but I've really enjoyed everyone's posts. Richie was one of my first friends when I moved from the Jonathan Maynard district to Juniper Hill. Along with Bobbie, Gary, Rickie, Artie, Ralph, Alan, Keith, Kenny and more, I was really lucky to have so many great friends, right away. Richie was fun loving, and fun to hang with. In the last several years, I loved his facebook posts. he'll be missed.  Mitch

I was so sorry to read of 'Richie's' passing. That was his neigthborhood name and for me it stuck. We were fortunate to have a great gang of kids...so much fun. I am so glad I got to talk to him at the reunion. His battle was valiant, his struggle made me ache for him and his family and friends. My thoughts are with all of you.heart
