Roy Scott

Roy E. Scott, 74, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital. Roy was born April 5, 1939, in Frankfort, the son of Ivory and Leona Johnson Scott. On September 2, 1960, he married Patricia “Pat” Spear; she survives. In 1957, Roy graduated from Frankfort Senior High School. He graduated from the Police Academy in 1969 and the FBI National Academy in 1979. Roy worked for the Frankfort Police Department for 23-1/2 years and was the Chief of Police for 8 years. During this time, he was the School Liaison Officer for 10 years for the Clinton County schools. Roy was the Mayor of Frankfort from 2000 to 2004. He was the co-owner/operator of Scott’s Line Painting in Frankfort and drove a bus for Frankfort Schools. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church where was the youth director. He was also very involved in the Special Olympics. Roy was a member of Mason Beard Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star Clinton County Chapter, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, and Fraternal Order of Police. Roy enjoyed softball, golf, fishing and hunting. Roy played fast pitch softball until age 50 and was twice honored in the Indiana Softball Hall of Fame, MVP in 1972, and Most Valuable Pitcher in 1982. His team also won the Softball State Championship four times. Roy coached Little League, Babe Ruth, and was a volunteer coach for the Frankfort Girls Softball Team. He was the Clinton County Youth Director in 1972. “Roy gave of himself unselfishly through volunteering so the rest could benefit.” In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by a son, Roy E. “Scotty” (DeAnn) Scott, II of Frankfort; a daughter, Cindy (Ted) Orem of Frankfort; three sisters, Velva King, Barbara Eldridge, and Bonnie Wade, all of Frankfort; four brothers, Wes Scott, Bill Scott, Dick Scott, and Marvin Scott, all of Frankfort; five grandchildren, Evan, Amy, Ashlyn, Courtney, and Cameron; and three great-grandchildren. Roy and his wife also raised four foster girls, Rita, Teddi, Diane and Toni. Along with his parents, Roy is preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Harold “Spike”, and Bob. Visitation for Roy will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Hope United Methodist Church in Frankfort with Pastor Ed Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort. Memorials in Roy’s name may be made to Hope United Methodist Church or the Paul Phillippe Resource Center.
