Information on Tom Boggess from Marilyn Lenhart 09/17/09
It just so happens that I called Von earlier today, (Tom's wife) and she said they have really been thru the mill. A man who had an epileptic seizure and was unconscious & traveling very fast rear ended another car as well as Tom's. He was in the driver's seat, of course, as he was alone. His seat was pushed back to the middle of his van. His car was still in drive and he couldn't reach the brake. However, he was able to get out of his seat belt and stop his car. He was rushed to the emergency room but because nothing was broken, he was released to go home. Von said Tom couldn't walk for a few days. He is extremely sore and has extreme pain in his back. The hit was so hard and he was jarred so much that he now has floaters in his good eye (he has one eye that he sees very little out of) and they are worried he will lose his eyesight. The doctor said that it can take 2 to 8 weeks before he feels any better and before they can tell if there is more damage done. No bones were broken. But they couldn't do an MRI because of all the swelling. Then on top of all of this, he got the shingles, causing more extreme pain. Von took him to the doctor for a shot to clear that up. It is better. He swears he's never had chicken pox but the doctor said he had shingles. Von said she was familiar with shingles and it looked like shingles to her. They have a 2-story house and she's exhausted running up and down the stairs. He has had no appetite and only recently began eating small amounts. She had to get a rented car because their van was destroyed. Being hit from behind can be awful and when you are our age, man it can really do some damage.
Sherry I hope you don't mind that I forward this email to other classmates that I have email addresses for. I thought everyone would appreciate hearing how Tom is doing.
All I can say to everyone is to keep Tom and Von in your prayers.

I can't imagine a reunion without T.B. so I"m hoping he starts feeling so much better in the next 2 or 3 weeks! I bet he and Von are both exhausted at this point. They may need "Nurse Nancy"!

I just talked with Von. She said Tom is getting better. His floaters are slowly but surely subsiding. The shingles are easing up a little and back is a bit better too. Keep praying for him (and Von). She tells me that they are still planning on attending our 50th. I sure hope so, as it wouldn't be the same without our Tom.
