Thanks for sharing your memories of Jack. We lost touch after graduation except for brief time at tenth reunion. Really enjoyed his sense of humor. He & I had a great time visiting my oldest brother & family in the Virgin Islands. Snorkeled the clear blue waters, were moved by the rhythms of the steel drums and the culture of the islanders and puzzled by their (to us) unusual reactions to Pride & Prejudice movie. He was a good man with a kind heart.
Judge John L. Evans of the Nassau County First District Court died on Monday at his home in Malverne, L.I. He was 48 years old.
Judge Evans died of cancer, said James J. Tini, a family friend.
Judge Evans, who was known as Jack, was elected in 1986 to a six-year term on the District Court bench. This year he was renominated for the First District Court on the Republican Party ballot line.
Judge Evans earned bachelor's and law degrees from Rutgers University in 1968 and 1971, respectively. He was an assistant district attorney in Nassau County from 1971 to 1975, when he opened his own practice. From 1978 to 1986 Judge Evans was a law clerk first to Judge Paul S. Lawrence and then to Judge Jules E. Orenstein, both of the Nassau County Court.
Judge Evans was a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Valley Stream Elks Lodge and a board member of the Long Island Council of Alcoholism and of the Malverne Library.
Well Jack i am now seventy, only saw your daughter for a second but knew she was a beauty. You Lived to see all three of mine, i wished you had lived to enjoy your daughter. God gives and takes away,,sorry for me, he had a deeper purpose for you. Rest my friend. Love always Jeamie
Jack was a good friend at VSN during our junior and senior years. Dennis Beecher, Jack and I used to play miniature golf together at a place called Putt Putt in Hewlett or Lawrence (can't remember exactly where it was) and drove around in his Pontiac. We lost touch after I moved away from Valley Stream. I was sad to learn that Jack died at such a young age but very happy to read about his professional and personal successes.
I am blessed reading all the heartfelt comments about a our classmate Jack Evans. Jean thank you for sharing. I am so humbled by the love of a good friend who passed way too soon.
I did not know Jack well at North, but I am so touched by the memories which have been shared at this website. I am especially moved that my classmates have shown, thru their comments, just what is important in life.
Rest in peace, Jack, and know that you made a difference in so many people's lives.
I was so touched to read all the wonderful words wriiten about Jack. I Remember Jack being a great guy. It was so said to hear he left this world at a very young age. To his family, they should be very proud of his accomblishments, I know I was.
