Derek was my first friend from kindergarten and we remained good friends our whole lives. He was probably the funniest guy I ever knew, always had a joke or wise crack. He had a soft side, it always stood out to me that he never got uncomfortable saying how he felt and giving a heartfelt compliment, even when we were really young. We had lots of great times in baseball, in school, and on his family vacations to the Dells. Man, do I miss that guy!
