Dennis Wooster reported to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 23. He died peacefully at his home in Jones Creek, Texas.
Dennis was born on May 24, 1953, at the Dow Chemical Hospital in Velasco, Texas. He was the second child of Harry “Cotton” and Florine Wooster. Dennis grew up on North Avenue G in Velasco, Texas, where he had a very happy and adventurous childhood. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, water skiing on the Old Brazos River and many other carefree things that children growing up in the 1950s and ’60s enjoyed doing. Dennis graduated from Brazosport High School in 1971. He and his very best friend, Benny Notgrass, volunteered for the draft in July 1971 and began their service to their country in the United States Army. Dennis served 17 months in Italy as a part of the Corps of Engineers assigned to NATO. Dennis earned the privilege of being assigned to the Italian Army, where he spent six weeks of intense training learning how to snow ski in the Alps of Europe.
Dennis returned to the Brazosport area in July 1973 with an honorable discharge from the United States Army. He enrolled in school at Brazosport College in the fall of 1973. He met the love of his life, Ginger Simpson, in College Algebra. Dennis and Ginger were married on February 23, 1974, at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton, Texas. They became parents May 25, 1975, when Ginger’s 9-year-old sister, Forest Jane Simpson, moved into their home. God blessed them again when Stephanie Michelle Wooster was born on September 16, 1976, then Andrew Michael arrived on March 9, 1978, and finally Peter Jonathan completed their family on January 27, 1981.
Dennis began his career with Dow Chemical in May 1977 as a Lab Tech. In July 1978, he became a part of the Plant B Fire Group. He was promoted to Shift Leader in 1987 for the Fire Department and then, in 1997, he became the Emergency Response Coordinator for Texas Operations. He was blessed to have worked with such a close-knit group of people who knew how to take care of their own.
Dennis’ passion was his service to God and to his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Freeport, Texas, where he was currently serving on the Executive Board as Lay Leader and teaching sixth- through eighth-grade Sunday School. Dennis was also on the Cradle of Texas Emmaus Community Board of Directors, where he helped with property. He was currently serving on the COT Walk No. 23 Team as TA.
Dennis is survived by his wife and soulmate of 31 years, Ginger Simpson Wooster of Jones Creek. He is also survived by his father, Harry L. “Cotton” Wooster of Freeport, Texas. He is survived by his children, Forest Jane King and husband, Randy, of Freeport, Stephanie Espey and husband, Jake, of Liverpool, Andy Wooster and wife, Kyrsten, of Kingston, Washington, and Peter Wooster of Jones Creek. His precious grandchildren, Katie and Aubrey King and Justin and Jordan Espey, also survive him. Dennis is survived by his siblings, Rodney Wooster and his wife, Dar, of Clute, Michelle Lippold and husband, Hank, of Freeport, and Toby Wooster and wife, Connie, of Humble. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Paul Simpson and wife, Leslyn, of Angleton, and Tommy Simpson and wife, Shelley, of Danbury.
