Rudolfo (Rudy) Garza, of Freeport, died at his residence on Sunday, September 26, 2004. He was born in Sample, Texas, on November 8, 1950, to the late Andres and Juanita Garza. Rudy was raised in Corpus Christi and came to Freeport in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973, during which time he received the National Defense Service Medal. Since the age of 16 he worked in the grocery industry, except for a five-year period which he did remodeling. For the past five years, he was employed by Lake Jackson Wal-Mart in the grocery department. During his spare time, Rudy enjoyed fishing and watching sports with his family. He was an avid Texans and Astros fan.

Surviving are his children: Melissa Soliz and husband, Robert, of Angleton, Joseph Garza and Jeramie Garza of Freeport; five brothers: Jesus Garza and wife, Dolores, of Foot Hills Ranch, CA, Andres Garza Jr. and wife, Linda, of Angleton, Jose Garza of Lake Jackson, Armando Garza and wife, Debbie, of Freeport and Mario Garza and wife, Veronica, of Freeport; three sisters: Adela Hernandez of Lake Jackson, Maria Rosa Crossman and Anavella Garza of Freeport; and a soon-to-arrive grandchild, Robert Evan Soliz.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton from 5 until 9 p.m. A Rosary will be held at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1019 W. 6th Street in Freeport, and burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alvie Busby, Chris Garza, Jody Garza, Paul Plata, Gabriel Plata and David Garza. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Marshall and Rudy Monclova.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rudy’s Hospice nurses, to Mike Marshall, Olivia and Armondo Plata and to his Wal-Mart family.
