U of Minn for couple of years before I joined the Army in 1965.
Special Forces, Vietnam 67-68. Volunteered for Special Opps Long Range Patrol Unit. It became C75th Rangers.
Note: Awarded the Silver Star for Heroism in combat on Feb 29th 1968. Not bad (two notches below the Medal of Honor)
Went from combat to civilian in 2 days. Wonder why combat vets have PTSD?
Met wife (Janice) 3 days after I returned in late 1968. Married in 1970.
New info: Still married to Janice and retired (and tired) but doing well with
all my hair. Have started about a year ago with altzhimere (spelling?) and doing well so far from the cancer treatments (no fun.)
Worked at many things. Got Diploma at computer systems but market crashed back then so started Snap On Tool franchise. Owned a liquor store after that, (ironically I don't drink)...Went on to various jobs.
My brother suggested going to the VA Hospital and I ended up getting diagnosed with PTSD. They needed a temp in admissions department so I took the job. Got in as permanent employee in early 80s and the Veterans Hospital became my last stop. I did, however, have four different jobs over the last 30 years working there. Went to night school for four years back in 1989-to 92 (Oldest guy in class and had 4.0 GPA which for me was pretty good since I was only an average student at Fridley.)
Got my degree in law enforcement. Worked as Federal Police officer at the Veterans Hospital and became a supervisor. Transferred later (after about 15 years) to the IT department (got a degree in computers also) and eventually became lead tech.
Hard decision but I needed to follow the money to get myself ready for retirement and taking care of family (Four Daughters) and super wife Janice.
Retired at end of 2011.
I have lived in Cottage Grove, MN since I bought our "starter" house. Looks like it also be our "ender" house! Janice (lovely wife) and I also own a house in Sun City West, Arizona. Haven't been there though for the last couple of years but hopefully this late fall for a vacation.
New info 2016... sold the AZ house.. who needs two homes anyway!
More newer Info:
2019:: I bought another car (had the bug to get something special)
It's a Dodge Charger Hellcat. Over 700 horsepower, 0 MPH to 60 MPH in 3.5 Seconds and It's got silver base with Pearl Blue color. Really a beautiful looking car and I have only been up to 156 miles an hour but car will go to 205MPH top speed.
What the heck, getting older and I'll either die in an accident or something...
Memory is going to hell in a handbag (as they say) Actually they (Doctors) are saying Alzheimer's Stage 2/3. Doesn't effect my driving long as wife can tell me where to turn. Didn't loose my humor …...yet. I can remember MOST of the good days back in school, it's the more current stuff that sucks. I'm doing pretty well though. Aw Sta-la-viesta. or something like that.
Later gang...
