Cynthia D. Douglas entered eternal rest on Monday, March 20th, 2023, at Rex Hospital surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Wake County to Eupharsia Olive Douglas and the late Bruce W. Douglas of Fuquay Varina, NC. She attended Fuquay Consolidated and Fuquay Varina High School, where she was in the class of 1975. From an early age, she attended New Providence Baptist Church in Fuquay, and in later years Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh. Initially, she worked for Syracuse Plastic in Cary, but over time, she realized she had a special gift with children, and attended Wake Technical Community College where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education. Cynthia loved children and they loved her. She was a mother figure to many children from her 20-plus years in the childcare industry.
Cynthia was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was the comedian of the family and was always ready to listen and give sound advice that was filled with love and humor. She designated herself as the “nickname" creator for many of the children in her family. Once she assigned the name, it stuck with you. Her grace, kindness, humor, and love she shared will truly be missed.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, Bruce W. Douglas, and her adopted brother Michael Mims. She is survived by her mother, Eupharsia Olive Douglas; Aunts: Grace Olive, Willie Mae McDonald, and Rennie L.Thorpe; Uncles: Gary Olive, Rayvon Olive (Bernice), and Larry Douglas (Olivia); Sisters: Joyce A. Olive, Gloria J. Douglas, Beverly R. Douglas, and Vanessa Leslie; Brothers: Wilton B. Douglas (Linda), Michael Douglas, Byron Douglas and adopted brother Donald W. Mims; five nieces, six nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Cynthia's visitation was at Trice Funeral Home, funeral was at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, in Raleigh, and burial at Holly Springs City Cemetery.
