Vernon Wade Evans, Jr.
April 3, 1957 - May 30, 1993
Vernon Wade Evans Jr. - "VW" - was the son of Gayla Upchurch and Vernon Wade Evans, Sr.
VW, who had lived in and around Holly Springs and the Wilbon community all of his life, worked as a professional dog handler and trainer. None of us will forget those pretty eyes and that shock of reddish-blonde hair. He died far too young - it was a tragic loss - and he will be sorely missed.
VW was survived by his parents, Vernon and Gailya Evans; sister, Patsy Meadows and husband Allan of Holly Springs; brother, Terry Evans of Holly Springs; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Evans of Holly Springs; aunts Eloise Evans Cade and Peggy Evans Ragan of Holly Springs, and Phyllis Evans Prince of Fuquay Varina, and the large extended Evans family, most of whom lived in "Evansville". One of VW's aunts married an uncle of mine - and I remember being amazed at what a close-knit large family they were - and the rarity of seeing that many blondish redheads in a room together!
VW's funeral was at Fuquay-Varina Presbyterian Church; pallbearers were Jeff Adams, J.C. Evans, Bernice Prince, Jay Upchurch, Tim Prince and Dwight Adams.
He is buried at Wake Chapel Cemetery.
