Carliss was born on May 2, 1957 to the late Julia Mae Burton Mims and Albert Mims Sr. She was the 5th of 6 children: 3 of her brothers pre-deceased her: Albert "Boot" Mims Jr, James W "Red" Mims, and Billy Wade Mims. Her husband, Billy Joe Kizer, also pre-deceased her. She is survived by her brother, Otis and her sister, Kathy.
As a child, she was the family babysitter, she and all her siblings worked on Mims Farm, and she cooked for the whole family when they came in from the fields. She was a hard worker at home, all while also a member of the FVHS high school class of 1975. We all remember that Carliss was a flashy and bold dresser and an outspoken person, and those are traits she exhibited throughout her life.
While she was in high school, her son, Ronald 'Tee' Mims, was born. After high school, she married Billy Joe Kizer, and they had a daughter, Carla Kizer. Later she adopted Christian Richardson, her nephew from birth, who became her son in 1977.
Carliss worked at Cornell Dubilier Electronics, then at South Bend in Fuquay. In 1983, she pursued a degree in cosmetology, and was chosen to deliver the commencement address to her graduating class. She became a business owner of "A Touch of Class Hair World" in downtown Fuquay for many years. Over the years, she lived in Clayton, Newton Grove, and finally, in Greenville where she had friends and family, as she battled various health conditions. She also worked at Gods Angels Daycare, and as a sub-contractor for Newkirk Cleaning Services. While living in Greenville, she joined her daughter's church, The Next Generation Church.
Carliss leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Ronald 'Tee' Mims of Jacksonville, FL, Carla Tamara (Omar) Kizer-Turnage of Greenville, NC, and Christian Richardson of Clayton, NC; grandkids, Xavier, Rondarious, Jeffrey, Z'yala, T'eera, Kayla, Rosalyn, RJ, Kaiden, and Emari, and her 7 great grandchildren.
