Richard Hogan

   Don Swanson, Swanny, was a great guy. He's been a friend since high school. He and I were classmates in 1958 in Ann Summerwill's American Literature class. When Ann announced she was getting married in about 1960, Swanny and I decided to drive to Iowa City to attend her wedding.  There were a few hundred people there and she was very surprised when we showed up. She has lived in Cedar Rapids since then. I moved to Cedar Rapids in 1969 and still there. I saw her now and then, usually when shopping.

      Back to Swanny, with living miles apart since graduation, our lives went in different directions, but we managed to reconnect over the years and have kept in touch with several personal interactions as well. He and his wife, Rosemary, are great people. I talked to him in November and knew of his illness, but he seemed upbeat. He passed the night of Dec. 30, a month shy of age 85. I will always miss him. He was about the only classmate I've been able to constantly keep in touch with for these many years.
