GALESBURG, IL - Rhoda D. Semington, 52, of 676 Home Blvd., Galesburg, IL died at 10:29 AM Thursday July 3, 2008 in Rosewood Care Center.

She was born July 1, 1956 in Galesburg, the daughter of Lloyd Lewis Smith and Maggie Mae Simington.

She is survived by a very special friend, Louis Sosa of Galesburg, one son, Arthur Lewis Semington of Galesburg, one daughter, Magdalene "Maggie" Denise Semington of Galesburg, two brothers, Stanley and Marlow Smith, both of Galesburg, three sisters, Bessie Smith of Peoria, IL, Gwen Smith of Missouri and Carmelia Brannon of Ohio, three step sisters of Peoria and one grandchild, A.C. Spinks. She was preceded in death by her parents and a special friend Randall Parton with whom she made her home.

She worked at Gates Rubber Company for 5 years. She later worked as a Phlebotomist at Cottage Hospital for 4 years. She was a cook and caterer. She last worked in housekeeping for the Fairfield Inn. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1974. She graduated from Carl Sandburg College with a certificate in Law Enforcement and a certificate in Human Services. She also attended Atlantic Airline School in Kansas City, MO in 1975. She was a member and did the bulletins for the Second Baptist Church. She also attended the Star of Bethlehem.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday July 8, 2008 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. There will be no visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Memorials may be made to either Arthur or Maggie Semington.
