GILSON - Howard "Moon" D. Ellison, 58, Gilson, died at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born Aug. 28, 1956, in Galesburg, the son of Gerald D. and Betty J. (Marsh) Ellison. He married Paula Harrison in 1975 in Avon. He later married Rebecca Smock-Morrison in 1984 in Abingdon.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 31 years, Becky; a daughter, Jennifer (and John) Rineberg of Danville; a son, Jayson Morrison of Spring Valley; two grandsons, Dennis and Dylan Rineberg; a brother, Rodger (and Linda) Ellison of Monmouth; and a sister, Jane Ellison in the state of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Moon graduated from Galesburg High School in 1974. He was a small engine mechanic, working at Sear's for 38 years until retiring in 2010. He had worked at Birkey's Farm Store since 2013. Moon was an outdoorsman, enjoying riding motorcycles and tractors, gardening, and mushrooming. Most recently he enjoyed driving his grandsons around the homestead on his golf cart. He was a member of the Spoon River Flyers Remote Control Airplane Club. He was of Christian faith.
Cremation will be accorded. No visitation or service is planned at this time, but a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to.
