Toni Horton

Toni M. Horton, 64, of Galesburg, died at 10:39 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2021, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born October 27, 1956, in Galesburg, the daughter of Stanley C. and Irene (Winkler) Horton.

She is survived by two sisters, Cynthia Dunn of Elmwood and Dixie Gustafson of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews, including the two she was helping to raise, Karsyn and Piercyn Stancomb. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rhonda McFadden; and a brother-in-law, Rex Dunn.

Toni was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1974. She went on to graduate with her B.S. in Nursing from Bradley University in 1978. Her nursing career included work at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, in the home health field for a time, and for the past several years for OSF Galesburg Clinic.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she formerly sang in the choir and played in the bell choir. She enjoyed music, and was a talented pianist. Toni was an avid reader. She taught reading to newly Americanized citizens and enjoyed volunteering at the Galesburg Public Library. She also enjoyed watching classic TV and knitting.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy. Private funeral service will be Wednesday at the chapel with Rev. Martha-Jean Fitch officiating.
