Monte Dean Soper

 Monte Dean Soper 58, of Soangetaha Road, Galesburg passed away at 8:55 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
He was born June 24, 1956 in Galesburg, the son of Norman Dean and Shirley McLaren Soper. He married Mary Varnold in 1983, he later married Gail Lynn Johnson-Miner August 12, 1988. She survives.
Also surviving are his children; Nathan Soper and wife Dayna, Jeremy Soper and wife Danielle, Brent Miner, Corey Miner and wife Jaime, Jessica Jamerson, Karissa Soper, and Mandi Clark; sister Janet Soper, two nephews Tyler Soper and Ethan Soper, and seventeen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Monte worked as a school bus mechanic for District #205, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. He bravely fought ALS for 23 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Friday, January 9, 2015 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Bishop Bruce Polay will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to ALS Foundation.
